Redcore INSTALLATION

* For using the device where you have the Redcore image (* .iso) you must start BIOS setup and change settings;

  • BIOS is a type of firmware used to perform hardware initialization during the booting process (power-on startup) on IBM PC compatible computers, and to provide runtime services for operating systems and programs

BIOS basic function:

  1. initialize and test the system hardware components
  2. loading a boot loader or an operating system from a mass memory device
  3. a consistent way for application programs and operating systems to interact with the keyboard, display, and other input/output (I/O) devices

* The desired setting, in this case, refers to the boot priority for our device that starts the system and this can be done at startup by pressing a key mentioned on the PC for this purpose;

* Most common keys for this action are: DEL, F2 or F11, depending on the type of BIOS your PC is using ; * Once you finished setting BOOT from a USB stick, SD card or DVD, save it and your computer will start Redcore LIVE session from your device; * After starting a menu will appear, where you can choose one of the options:

  1. Start Redcore Desktop 1702 Canis Major (in this case) - to enter the live session;
  2. Advanced Options - this option are settings about ACPI and Virtualbox;
  3. Language Selection - here you can choose the language used in Redcore;
  4. Keyboard Selection - change the keyboard format;

* After starting the LIVE session you choose your username and password:

  1. User: redcore
  2. Password: redcore

* After recognizing user and validating the password, you will see the default desktop; * You can see the Redcore logo and another icon named “Ask for help”

* In the LIVE session menu, at the System Tools section you can find also Calamares; * You can use the shortcut from desktop or Calamares, both will start the installation on your PC; * After starting the installation, there will appear a window where you must use the ROOT password: root * you can continue the installation or abandon … * Now just follow the installation steps: * Choosing the language used for installation … you can continue the installation or abandon …

* Choosing the location for the user … this is required to properly display the date and time … it is possible to continue the installation, return to the previous screen, or abandon … you can also return to the previous settings you made …

* Keyboard layouts according to personal needs … there is the possibility of continuing the installation, return to the previous screen, or abandon …

* Viewing partitions recognized by the BIOS in order to install … no possibility of returning to the previous screen or canceling the installation …

* Depending on personal needs, you can choose to install alongside another operating system on on another partition, wipe disk and manual formatting according to your wishes … we recommend replacing a dedicated partition for Redcore … it is possible to continue the installation, return to previous screen, or its abandonment … most imprtant aspect is that you can encrypt the data with system installation

* Next you have to set the system configuration for main user of Redcorename used for logging, computer name, password, administrator password… there is a possibility of automatic logging without typing a password or using unique passwords for user and administrator, it is possible to continue the installation, return to the previous screen, or its abandonment…

* Check your personal settings and the possibility of continuing the installation, return to the previous screen, or its abandonment …

* If you are not confident of what you've done till now, you can return to the previous settings
